From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Society or human society is the manner or condition in which the members of a community live together for their mutual benefit. By extension, society denotes the people of a region or country, sometimes even the world, taken as a whole. Used in the sense of an associaton, a society is a body of individuals outlined by the bounds of functional interdependence, possibly comprising characteristics such as national or cultural identity, social solidarity, language or hierarchical organization. Human societies are characterized by patterns of relationships between individuals sharing a distinctive culture and institutions. Like other communities or groups, a society allows its members to achieve needs or wishes they could not fulfill alone. A society, however, may be ontologically independent of, and utterly irreducible to, the qualities of constituent individuals; it may act to oppress. The urbanization and rationalization inherent in some, particularly Western capitalist, societies, has been associated with feelings of isolation and social "anomie". More broadly, a society is an economic, social or industrial infrastructure, made up of a varied collection of individuals. Members of a society may be from different ethnic groups. A society may be a particular ethnic group, such as the Saxons; a nation state, such as Bhutan; a broader cultural group, such as a Western society. The word society may also refer to an organized voluntary association of people for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes. A "society" may even, though more by means of metaphor, refer to a social organism such as an ant colony. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How does society s responses to deviance restore and disrupt social order? Q. To what extent does society respond to deviances and how it restores and disrupts social order? Thanks! :) Asked by ~Stabbing the Drama~ - Wed Oct 22 19:57:02 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. depends on how you define deviance i guess :) are you defining it morally, religiously, or purely from a criminal justice perspective? depending on the definitions and the era in society you are concentrating on, one man's deviancy is another man's employment :) political implications may also depend on whether such 'deviancy' disrupts or restores social order - example, 'moral outrage'! hope this helps Answered by hi! iq - Wed Oct 22 21:15:52 2008 What happens to society when people start to cheat the laws? Answered by Yo it's Me - Mon Feb 4 22:20:43 2008 What effect on society will there be if our magnetic poles flipped?
Q. Throughout Earth's history, the magnetic poles have periodically flipped, i.e. magnetic north goes to the South Pole and magnetic south goes to the North Pole. I read that we will soon be passing through the plane of rotation for the Milky Way, and I hypothesize this might trigger our poles to flip. What kind of effect could this have on our society, considering are increasing reliance on electronic devices? Asked by Mercer Devil - Tue May 13 02:56:37 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. Well, first of all the Earth's magnetism will o to zero before flipping. This will mean complete depletion of the ozone layer, and cosmic rays will pass right through the atmosphere. The moment you step out of the house, you will look like "an overcooked pizza" to quote Bill Bryson. The Earth's magnetism does flip once every 500 million years or so, but there are enough lucky survivors to prevent extinctions.
