Q. Of the things Obama told us, what's serious and what is just political rhetoric? Should we ask Canada to find that out too?
Asked by Rezko - Mon Mar 3 20:46:21 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. this story is extremely overblown. I am canadian, I've seen the coverage here and on CNN. Basically what it boils down to is this. Both obama and clinton want to tweak nafta, change it. Both obama and clinton threatened that they'd withdraw from it if canada wasn't open to changing it. THAT was politics. Neither would completely withdraw from nafta. The US and Canada are each other's biggest trading partner. An economic advisor of obama's met with canadian officials for different reasons and basically told them Obama wouldn't withdraw from nafta. Obama never said he would, he just threatened it if the deal wasn't renegotiated. The threat, both from obama and clinton, was bluster to get votes in Ohio.

Is ad hominem a problem in the political rhetoric of the Unites States?
Q. Best answer goes to the most well thought out articulate answer.
Asked by JP - Sun Jan 9 17:57:20 2011 - - 3 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Yes, ad hominem often is a problem in the USA political scene. What happens is that debate becomes so fierce, people begin to form personal attacks against each other, rather than attacks against their claim. It is sad, but many people have lost track of the issues, and now vote according to a candidates political affiliation, rather than according to his personal beliefs. Legislatures vote according to party lines, regardless of their personal beliefs. Hopefully, this issue can be resolved, and we will learn to not attack people personally.

Are the liberals in here truly oblivious to their hypocrisy concerning political rhetoric?
Q. How do you nuts expect to be taken seriously with the weak, whiny arguments you start? Bertrand - so you say the difference is how someone responds to it, not what is said? Since no one else can control how a person reacts, that is a ridiculous perspective. Wow. Just wow.
Asked by hurtsx2 - Sun Jan 9 14:33:55 2011 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Has anyone actually tried to shoot Bush? EDIT: No, of course not, but connect invisible dots if you must. Anyways, pointing out "hypocrisy" doesn't make the far-right any less responsible for what happened. It's like a person that was caught speeding saying "but the person in front of me was driving even faster!" It's irrelevent.

Is this more political rhetoric or Hillary just wanting to change the agreed upon rules?
Q. The national party eliminated all the delegates from states a more than 350 in all a because they broke party rules against holding their primaries before Feb. 5. All the major Democratic candidates also made pledges not to campaign in those states before their primaries. Now that Obama won South Carolina and she seeks to smooth relations with Obama - she wants the rules that were agreed on overturned ?
Asked by Akkita - Sat Jan 26 23:56:18 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. She was talking about appealing the decision long before the primary was held in South Carolina. I agree that three hundred and fifty delegates should not lose their votes at the convention because of a disagreement between state, and federal levels of the party.

I have been documenting and following all the political rhetoric since 1998?
Q. As far as deceit and unkept promises, both parties are about neck and neck. In propaganda republicans have the lead and in hopeless ideals democrats are ahead. There are so many headlines and interviews where politicians speak about how important something is and how they vow to change it, then theres never anything else spoken of it since. And apparently no change either. All in all I would have to say Republicans and Democrats are both equally incompetent and unsuitable for the leadership of this great nation. What do you think?

A. I agree that the main beneficiaries of politics are the politicians. I think it's essential to boil the issues down to the basics of taxation. Take all the propaganda away and look at taxes. Do you want to pay more? Vote democrat.

You've got someone who's been rejected from the army and excluded, as I understand it, from college, on mental health grounds, and yet this same person is allowed to go and purchase a lethal weapon? The excuse I heard given on BBC news today from a Republican senator (I think) was "it turns out he was deranged, but he wasn't certified deranged. He was asked to get an evaluation but he didn't" or words to that effect. One has to wonder whether said senator had considered that, perhaps, your average 'deranged' person might not have the inclination, or even… [cont.]
