What is the definition of political rhetoric?
Q. What is it? Do not go "Oh its the liberals/conservatives talking about blah blah blah." I want to know the actual definition of what political rhetoric is.

A. It's come from many directions. They saw the hippie movement and were afraid. The first attack came in the 80s on the school system. They removed Civics classes, and continue to remove electives and expand Math and Reading. (Just the basics, don't think, just spout basic facts over and over) Then came the Radio. Rush Limbaugh's radio program lost money all of it's first 10 years. How does a radio program that's losing money stay on long enough to develop a zombie following? (The answer to that is that it was part of a large plan) Then came the dismantling of the New Deal. This was accomplished by putting in poison pills. What I mean is that they put in little laws to make each of the New Deal programs more expensive, and they cost us tax… [cont.]

What good is political rhetoric and name calling?
Q. It is depressing when I come to this website to answer questions and the majority of what I say is right or left talking points, rhetoric and name calling. We all understand that the left and right disagree on a number of issues. Does it help either side or any argument to sit here and point fingers and call each other names? We are in this together so Republican or Democrat, why not ask serious questions and have some intelligent conversation?
Asked by Snap - Sun Apr 15 15:26:20 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's politics. We have been torn apart for so many years thinking the other is so wrong that no one takes the time to actually listen to the other side. You are right. If people were more worried and concerned about the issues at hand and figuring out how to fix them and not so much at name calling, dirt digging up, finger pointing... something might actually get done.

A. I haven't read the book Sunshine recommends, but it looks excellent. Here's the link at Amazon: You might also try Political Communication: Rhetoric, Government, and Citizens by Dan F. Hahn. If you need something online quick, try this (it primarily deals with the relationship between political rhetoric and political violence):

Q. Is he fooling most of the people most of the time ?

A. political rhetoric: it is irrelevant and because he is a good speaker doesnt mean that his intentions are not good. if anything his speeches show amazing insight and judgement. Since when linguistic competence is a minus? I don't want another Bush media manipulation: all that the media has done in the States is questioning Obama as if he is the only candidate. Msc Cain keeps getting a free ride. The fact that Obama has been able to impress some of the news people is a testimony to how extraordinary he is. popularity: In his case popularity has been increasing cause his honesty and passion when he talks touches people and his ideals are high and woth pursuing. It is ok to dream of something better.

Does anyone believe the political rhetoric about the "free market" anymore?
Q. Corporate welfare is still welfare. Bush is just using double speak (again) to make sure his friends get financial help. If a business fails, it's not a good business. How could republicans still say the dems are socialists with a straight face?
Asked by neil s - Mon Nov 24 11:31:13 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Flaw, the difference is that everyone expects democrats to bail someone out. When a democrat says they want this amount of money so this company doesnt fold, no one raises an eyebrow. This is what we expect. When a republican, such as president bush, and the rest of the republicans in congress say that 'we are all about free market... but this time, we believe in socialism' it is completely against what they run on. "Its only socialism when free markets are doing good."

A. What is going on in American politics since the takeover of the GOP by the most fanatical fringe element of the cult-evangelicals during Reagan days is not the true norm with which I grew up. In the days before Reagan/CIA-director-then- Chinese-Ambassador-then-V P-then President-turned-liar- about-Iraq (Rossi, 2005) GHW Bush (Sr.) and before the likes of Limbaugh, FAUX News, right-wing talk radio, or the ever diabolically evil Karl Rove, the use of "persuasive rhetoric" could be applied rather well "in the political genre" as you say. However, unless you can say that Adolf Hitler engaged in "persuasive rhetoric" when he vilified and dehumanized an entire population of people (the Jews) with such cruel precision using the model often… [cont.]

A. Because they are not able to think issues through for themselves. They are either too lazy or too stupid, I'm not sure which. They simply believe what they are told and repeat what they are told incessantly in the hopes of recruiting more parrots for their cause. Oh yeah, and they drink WAY too much of the Jesus Juice the right-wing "Christians" serve.

A. I wouldn't call it rhetoric so much as reality. They've had years to get their own country under control and they've proven to be too incompetent to do it. The civil disorder is indeed their own fault, and perhaps we should walk out and let them stew in it.
